Insanity Max: 30 – Scary but Exciting!

insanity max: 30 shaun tIt’s all mental. I don’t like to work out, well at least that is what I tell myself. Probably not true though. I sure have lots of excuses each day on why I need to do other things instead of exercise. TRUTH: I love how I feel post workout, so I wonder why I am not prioritizing it.

I know in order to see change, I have to do something different. Not only does my body respond to new activities, but my mind likes the challenge. Luckily as a Beachbody coach, I have access to SO many different, effective in-home workouts. I’ve found that that working out at home works best for me.

Closing out 2014

I’m looking forward to wrapping up the year with a 21 day commitment to MYSELF. I’ll be doing the 21 Day Fix from Dec 1-21. Then, I get to test out Beachbody’s newest program, Insanity Max: 30. I am excited because in the past when I have done Shaun T’s Insanity and Insanity Asylum workouts, although they were the hardest workouts I have ever done, I was in the best shape of my life.

I admit I am a little scared (ok, a lot scared) of the program – not because it will be “TOO HARD.” I’m anxious because I know doing the workouts is all about mindset and pushing yourself to the MAX. I can’t say I’ve really ever done that before when it comes to physical activity, so it will be something I have to work on.

A New Level in 2015

You may be wondering, since I don’t love to workout, why would I chose to commit to a program like this? Well, I recently watched a live interview with Shaun T and I tell you – that man knows his stuff! He has me super excited to see what I can do.

Let me share some of the things I learned about Insanity Max: 30:

  • It isn’t harder than Insanity Asylum
  • The program is more than just cardio workouts
  • Each workout includes modifications and shows the modifiers on screen the entire time (this is key to my mindset)
  • Your body is your equipment, nothing else needed (no EXCUSES!)

Shaun T has taken the core fitness concept of MAXING OUT and put it in a program. The goal is to eventually reach 30 minutes without stopping. However, the point is not just about reaching the full 30 minutes. The purpose is to go as hard as you can for as long as you can and then take a break. Then going back and pushing again as hard as you can.

I’ll admit, it sounds super intense and kind of crazy to me. But, in a weird way, I am excited to try it and to see exactly what I’m capable of. I’m pretty sure I am just mentally in my own way most of the time when it comes to pushing myself physically.

Is Insanity Max: 30 for you?

Insanity Max: 30 is for anyone who wants to take their body to peak physical condition. THIS excites me. I have never been in peak condition. I’ve been in good shape, but not peak. I am a little afraid of doing it – only because I know it is MENTAL along with PUSHING past what I think I can do and doing more each day. I’m now at a point where I’m ready to welcome that challenge.

This program is perfect for people who:

  • Want to push themselves to beat their personal best
  • Are short on time (just 30 minutes)
  • Don’t want to use equipment (or don’t have it)
  • Want a flexible eating plan
  • Are at any fitness level

The workouts include a Tabata style which is 20 seconds on 10 seconds off for 8 rounds. This is high intensity interval training and gets its name from Japanese scientist Dr. Izumi Tabata. He was one of a group of researchers that discovered the effectiveness of this type of training.

In the first month there are 8 rounds of 20 seconds on 10 seconds off doing drop sets. Drop sets essentially are exercises that are designed to get easier as your muscles fatigue. In the second month there are 6 rounds of 45 seconds on, 15 seconds off. You go longer as you get stronger.

The Kit – Workouts & Eating Guides

The Insanity Max: 30 program KIT comes with:

  • 12 workouts on 10 DVDs
  • Nutrition to the Max Guide
  • Wall Calendar
  • No Time to Cook Guide
  • Max out Guide

This program includes flexible eating plan and containers. I am super excited about this because having containers really simplifies how much to eat and how often. If it fits, you can eat it. Something, as a busy mom, that I NEED. I loved this approach when I used it in the 21 Day Fix and I am excited to see that Insanity Max: 30 has included it too. It is perfect because most people need portion control. This program helps you manage your eating so you can eat again sooner – who doesn’t love that, right?

I guess the good thing is the excitement outweighs the fears and I can’t wait to get started with this program. It is available now and I’ve got mine ordered. I’m putting together a test group for this workout to start in January. Leave a comment below if you’re interested in joining me.
