A Gem in the Desert – Diamond Retreat

One of the skills that comes in handy for both business and being a Mom is the ability to achieve balance. But as we all know, that is easier said than done most of the time, in both business and in the business of being a Mom.

Recently I had a chance to co-host a retreat with Melissa from Texas for qualifying members of our team. The point of the retreat was to take a “time out” from everyday life to do personal and professional development and give our team members a reward for a great year of business (plus work on those balancing skills)!

To really make this a true “retreat,” we pulled out all the stops. A beautiful six million dollar mansion in Paradise Valley was our venue. Everyone got fabulous ‘swag bags’ when they arrived. A local chef to came in and prepared some of our meals, which made it easy to eat healthy and focus on our time together. Some of the other fun included: private sessions with a yoga instructor (sadly, the weather was a bit uncooperative and we had to move our scheduled outdoor yoga session indoors) and a choice of a business or fitness photo shoot, complete with a professional photographer and professional hair and make-up artists.

No retreat for Beachbody coaches would be complete without a workout, so we took some time to hike Camelback Mountain. Then we got to have a private Calvin Klein shopping experience and topped it off with dinner at Montauk!

The training part of the weekend was led by an Elite coach from another team who shared a ton of tips and tricks to help us with our businesses and gave us some fresh perspectives. This was truly a luxury retreat packed with value and gave our teams the opportunity to get to know each other better and build some good, strong support. But there’s no way I could have pulled it all off by myself, I’m so thankful to have partnered with Melissa so we could pull it off.

But, of course, to be away for four days, there had to be some pretty intense pre-planning for things to run smoothly at home. Especially when your son is going to his first formal dance that very same weekend. Talk about ‘Mom Guilt’. Fortunately, it worked out that Jack and his friends who were going to the formal liked the idea of coming out to the retreat venue for some pre-dance pictures! It was a fun experience for the teens, the retreat attendees were very welcoming (perhaps a bit nostalgic) and seemed to enjoy the energy the kids brought with them. With a bit of creative problem-solving, I didn’t have to miss out sending my son off to his First Formal!

I’d definitely love to do another retreat in the future. Having the opportunity to help my team get in some bonding, make them feel special, refreshed and looking at their business differently was amazing. There was a great blend of activities and I got to enjoy a balance between my business and my family.
