To “Quit” or Not to Quit: A Self-Discovery Moment

I’ve been in business with Beachbody for 10 years, and back in 2009, I regularly made the short list for quarterly top coach by region (appearing in the top 5 each quarter but never pushing for #1). In fact, when the company started Success Club in January 2010, I hit SC 5 from the get-go and upped my effort to hit SC 10 in its fourth month. I’ve made SC 10 every month since.14039935_917578798372335_7722020764720279129_n

The first time I went to a Beachbody leadership retreat was the year Molly was born. I had worked hard all through my pregnancy to qualify to be there, and I was determined. Then I discovered she was due during the retreat. But I still thought, I can do this.

Molly ended up coming three weeks early, and Beachbody had to delay the retreat by a week. I couldn’t have timed it better. So I went, 3-week-old Molly in tow. I had my game plan for success and I was determined to make the most of it. I attended some events, took care of myself and my baby and had an amazing time.

A Mindset Shift

But my mindset changed a bit earlier this year. Life got busy. Although I kept my norm of making SC every month, I realized I wasn’t on track to qualify for this year’s leadership retreat and frankly gave up trying. At Summit in July, I told a girlfriend I wouldn’t be at the retreat. She was shocked.

In my head, I wasn’t trying to qualify because I knew it would be hard. I gave up on myself. I was ready to quit trying. Thankfully, my friend wouldn’t give up on me. She said, “No, I will see you at the retreat. Because you will be there. We will do what it takes.” (You can read more about my why she pushed me and how grateful I am she did!)

I was only halfway to qualifying at Summit, in mid-July. And I only had until the end of August to get to where I needed to be. I had earned 10 elite points the whole first half of the year and I needed to earn 10 more elite points in just 45 days.

In the end, I got where I needed to be and I’ll go to the leadership retreat in a few weeks. But it took a lot of hard work, some major hustling and something else: knowing that someone was counting on me. My friend, and my team.

I have a lot of new coaches on my team right now, and I knew I needed to be there for them. I worked closely with the willing and helped them reach their goals. I helped people believe in themselves, which helped me get my mojo back on track.

Self-Discovery: My Important

See, I had given up on myself. But putting on blinders and really working hard (regardless of what I had to do) helped me finish strong.

It’s important for me to be successful and feel a sense of accomplishment. It helps me be a better mom and wife. It gives me a sense of ownership. It allows me to be a good role model for my kids. I had a lot going on in August, but all I had to do was prioritize what I wanted so I could get it done.

But my “important” is different from your important. I invest in myself and my business because I know what they do for me. You need to find what’s meaningful in your life and invest in that—your time and your heart.

What is it that motivates you to meet your personal and fitness goals? What keeps you on track in business? It’s important to know what those things are so you can go back to them when you’re struggling. Reach out to a friend and let them know where your focus is so they can help you too.
