The Start of Football Season
What better way to celebrate football season than a trip north, where the weather really feels like fall.
I’ve said it before: One of my favorite perks of my job is being able to work mobilly and to be able to support a lifestyle where my husband and I can travel and do things for our kids. Over Labor Day weekend, Jeff and I were able to do just that. We took Jack and Charlie to Wisconsin to watch the University of Wisconsin Badgers take on Utah State in their first game of the season.
Jeff grew up in Wisconsin and the Midwest is one of our favorite places to visit, especially in the dog days of summer (and of course, the kids love attending summer camp there). We found a great deal on tickets, and my parents were available to watch the girls, so it seemed like a no-brainer to us. It was like a boy’s trip that Mom got to tag along on!
I love football, but I especially love the college town pride on game days. We stayed on campus at the Memorial Union, and participated in all the game-day activities and fun that draws about 80,000 people. The traditions they have are incredible, like the Jump Around song playing while while the whole stadium jumps. You can see the video from a previous game here (it’s amazing the stadium doesn’t collapse!):
My kids have grown up loving Wisconsin sports, and Jack is even thinking of applying there when he looks at colleges. We took a guided campus tour, and it’s just beautiful. The school is situated between two lakes and there’s plenty of recreation to be had there.
Of course, I also dragged the boys to one of my favorite pastimes while visiting other areas: Goodwill. We scored some red Wisconsin gear for a steal, so we were decked out while we were there.
It was a quick long weekend trip and we were back in time for the boys to get some rest before school the following Tuesday. And I love that we’re in a place where we can let our kids experience things like this. Next, the girls will want their own special trip!
