Meditate for Mindfulness

Meditate for Mindfulness

You may have seen my post about my youngest, Molly, trying out meditation. It’s funny that, at not quite 8 years old, Molly knew that meditation would allow her to have the peace of mind to work through the thoughts and frustrations she was having.

As adults, we can learn something from this.

Meditation is a simple, easy exercise you can do from just about anywhere. And even better–it’s free!

Now I admit, I haven’t spent a lot of time meditating. But I know that it’s something I can (and should) add into my daily routine to let go of stress and calm my spirit. Here’s how Jeff and I supported Molly on her quest:

  • We bought her the Headspace app, which you can use for free to start. After a trial, it’s just a few dollars a month.
  • We helped her pick out a pillow to sit on. Interestingly, we decided that a dog bed worked best, since it’s flat and easy to sit on.
  • We allowed her to choose a corner in the house to set up.
  • We gave her a few battery-operated candles for ambience.

While I enjoy being outdoors, taking walks, I know that a meditation practice would be really beneficial to me. And I know a mom who’s leading a meditation group. Since I’ve always wanted to try it, maybe Molly’s desire to try it out is the universe speaking to me, telling me it’s time.

Do you use meditation to help you relax, feel more present and centered or to keep your sanity? I’d love to know more about your practice and how you have made it your own.
