Our (Big) Puppy Update

Our Big Puppy Update

It’s been a while since my last update on our puppy, Ivy, and since it’s never a dull moment I figured I should let her check in!

First of all, I did not know I was signing up to have a crazy, four-legged toddler in the house. We love her dearly (and Jeff tolerates her) but there’s no end to what she gets into if we turn our heads for more than a few seconds.

So far, she’s gotten into:

  • Toilet paper off the roll
  • Socks, socks and more socks
  • Soap out of the shower
  • Toothbrushes (like the kid that licks treats)
  • Jeff’s reading glasses
  • Pancake mix
  • A computer mouse in the office
  • Dollhouse pieces
  • Stuffed animals
  • Burgers off the kitchen counter
  • Placemats
  • Towels

Honestly, I could go on. But you get the picture. Thankfully we always catch her quickly and the only thing that’s really made her sick (repeatedly) is the socks.

While she’s super naughty, she’s also very smart. She knows how to sit, stay, paw (shake), lay down, come and leave it. Well, she’ll leave it if we catch her in the act–she doesn’t quite have the willpower to leave the things alone that she shouldn’t be into.

Ivy spent two weeks with a friend while we were on vacation and she had an amazing time with their dogs. And she might have gotten a little spoiled, sleeping in their beds. But she bounced back to the routine soon after getting home and is back to sleeping in her crate at night. It’s really her safe space and the place that’s all her own.

We’re working on all of Ivy’s bad behaviors and will have the trainer come over to help us again. Let’s be real, the trainer is more for the humans than she is for the dog!

As much as this has been a frustrating process, Ivy is a great dog. She’s eager to please and very social. I know soon we won’t be able to imagine life without her–just as soon as we get the naughtiness taken care of!
