Why the Coach Needs a Coach
Just because I’m a health and fitness coach doesn’t mean that I get all my workouts in like I should. I struggle just as much as the next person, sometimes more. And I probably feel more guilty than the next person when I miss a workout–because I’m over here encouraging you to do yours.
That’s why I hired a personal trainer for Lucy a few months ago, I was excited to tag along and reap the benefits of the accountability.
I hired the trainer because I wanted Lucy to learn how to use the gym and the equipment it offered. She was preparing for volleyball nationals and needed some cross-training options. While the trainer is essentially for her, I probably need it more than she does.
As you know, I’ve spent years working out with Beachbody workouts. I love the versatility of being able to work out at home and the varied workouts available through Beachbody On Demand.
I also love the community I’ve built around my own health and fitness. The accountability of having a group of like-minded people who also care about their personal and professional goals is a huge motivator for me.
But working out at home takes a certain level of self-discipline and sometimes it’s hard to get going. That’s why having someone local push me is such a good motivator.
Plus, I love having the time with Lucy. I feel like we push one another too. Like the reverse lunges we did off a step. She thought it was easy while I struggled. This makes me want to try harder and push myself!
Another benefit of having someone local train me is that she can see me through a new set of eyes. I’m so used to correcting my own form and I know I can’t watch myself the way someone else can. She can see where I need to shift how I’m standing or holding the weights. And she knows what additional exercises I should do to get the results I want.
I’ll always want the virtual accountability and community available through Beachbody, but having this trainer is giving me a new advantage I didn’t have before.
True, Lucy is the reason for hiring her in the first place, and Lucy continues to reap the benefits. But I’ll still attend training sessions when I can so I can benefit from it too.
